KNOWLEDGE IS POWER– Sodium hydroxide is required in order to yield bar soap. We use sodium hydroxide but because there is none left in the finished product we omit listing it as a final ingredient. The chemical reaction between sodium hydroxide and fats (saponification) is what creates this wondrous cleansing masterpiece. If you purchase a bar from a company and it was not made using sodium hydroxide/lye then you are not purchasing a soap bar but rather a detergent bar.
When soap is made properly you are left with only a beautiful bar of sudsy goodness and no sodium hydroxide/lye.
