KNOWLEDGE IS POWER– Sodium hydroxide is required to yield bar soap. We use sodium hydroxide, but we omit listing it as a final ingredient because there is none left in the finished product. The chemical reaction between sodium hydroxide and fats (saponification) is what creates this wondrous cleansing masterpiece. If you purchase a bar from a company and it was not made using sodium hydroxide/lye, you are not purchasing a soap bar but rather a detergent bar.
When soap is made properly you are left with only a beautiful bar of sudsy goodness and no sodium hydroxide/lye.
